C W (Bill) Watson has been a Professor in the School of Business and Management, Institut Teknologi Bandung since 2009. He is also an Emeritus Professor of the University of Kent (UK) where he taught for 27 years.

His MA (Hull) by research was entitled “The Sociology of the Indonesian Novel 1920-1955″. After teaching Indonesian literature In Malaysia for three years he trained as a social anthropologist at the University of cambridge and did his fieldwork in Kerinci in central Sumatra which was written up for a thesis entitled “Kinship. Property and Inheritance in Kerinci.”

He has given guest lectures at several universities in Europe and South-East Asia and has attended many international conferences. He continues actively to pursue his research interests in literature and anthropology as well as on developments in the Muslim community in Indonesia. Besides continuing to do research on Kerinci he is also currently studying contemporary Sundanese literature in West Java.
