The instability of economic condition in several countries affects sustainability of many industries. Industries have to create an excellent strategy to stay competitive. The skill of structural integration between business strategy and development is one of the key factors for employees to succeed. As the institution that contributes in creating the best business graduates, we establish professional association named IABEP.
IABEP (International Association of Business Engineering Professionals) is a start-up international network with an initial focus on South East Asia (Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, planned Singapore). IABEP is initiated by ESB Business School, Reutlingen University, Germany who believed the program would give many contributions in academic and industry areas. Three stakeholders being part of IABEP: universities, corporate partners (SMEs and MNUs), and trade partners (chambers of commerce, trade associations and government bodies). The joined South East Asia Universities consisted of three universities: School of Business and Management ITB; Ho Chi Minh City International, Vietnam; and Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Malaysia. Wiha Werkzeuge BmBH, Schonach, Germany applied as a corporate partner.
Business Engineering (BE) is a new program in South East Asia which focuses on the integration of various aspects of business strategy (information, processes, organization, technology) based on engineering principles to present, design and build an innovative business system for providing better products and services. The uniqueness of BE is the combination of two skills, engineering and business disciplines, into a single program with aims to confront the industries complexities nowadays.
School of Business and Management (SBM) saw the opportunities as being part of the program. Since SBM has International Business program where the students are required to study abroad for at least one year, students can gain more engineering knowledge in ESB Business School, Reutlingen University. The lack of engineering skill in business graduates is going to be covered up through this program and it fulfills the companies’ need of employees who have both of business and engineering skills.
The business engineering focuses on socially oriented method and structural state, then later on to become socio-structural intervention. Business engineering is an engineering field that focuses on socio-structural intervention through conceptualization, modelling, analysis, organization, calculation, and the design of complex organizations. Business engineering is concerned with the development and implementation of business solutions that incorporate business model, business process, organizational structure, information systems, and information technology.
The graduates of the program would have several advantages which are:
In order to support the industry need, business engineering program requires cooperation with various industrial sectors to gather information about the needs and demand of the industries from the business engineering graduate program. IABEP holds meetings with several industry sectors, named “Local Event IABEP” to gather knowledge and insight from the companies’ point of view about Business Engineering program. Another goal of the local meeting is to create a good networking between IABEP with companies. Focus Group Discussion is applied as a discussion method between IABEP and companies.
The first Local Event IABEP took place in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia on September 26-27, 2016 along with the 1st International Business Engineering Conference (IBEC) 2016. The second Local Event IABEP is organized by SBM ITB and is going to be held at SBM Campus Jakarta on February 27th, 2017 with Indonesia’s companies as the participants. To create the robust insight of business engineering body of knowledge and graduate profiles, the event invites industry from five sectors: manufacturing, infrastructure, service, consumer goods, and energy.
