DSC_0043SBM ITB together with MediaWave, the pioneer of Big Data analysis in Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding between two parties. This event held in Lobby Kresna, SBM ITB Bandung Campus on 19th January 2015 from 09.00 until 12.00. This cooperation between education and social media monitoring, measurement and analytic platform provider is the first initiator in Indonesia. In other countries, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Standford University and Harvard University have the similar collaborations with big name providers like Oracle, Microsoft, SAS and etc. Through this cooperation, both parties are expected to collaborate in the development of big data analysis in Indonesia.DSC_0043SBM ITB together with MediaWave, the pioneer of Big Data analysis in Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding between two parties. During his opening speech, Prof. Togar Simatupang as Vice Dean of Academic stated that big data analysis becoming the needs to create a better business decision making nowadays. “SBM ITB ourself, as the behaviour based management institution view MediaWave as one of the best provider in Indonesia that giving faster and real time analysis of consumer perception towards brand or any other issues”.

“Big data itself, described as similar with small data, but ‘only’ greater, with quite significant consequences, not only from different tools of analysis being used but also higher specification of hardware required”, said Deddy Priatmodjo Koesrindartoto, Ph.D in his short presentation about SBM ITB current research in Big Data Analysis topics. Small data using a lot of statistical power and interpretation, on the other hand big data not only using the statistical power but also employed machine learning, visualization technique , development of algorithm, network analysis and interpretation. Those are the much-needed complements to enrich the analysis of phenomenons. Social media research seen as one of the play ground for implementing the big data analysis are currently waiting to be explored , especially in Indonesia. Koesrindartoto stated, “By combining SBM ITB expertise in academics approach, and MediaWave extensive experience as the leader of Social Media research in Indonesia, I firmly believed this research area will grow and excel in no time.”

One of the big issue recent years in social media analysis industry, is there’s no standardization in measurement of research. “To us SBM ITB is not only the best business school in Indonesia, but also an institution of experts in management that create future business leaders. That’s why we collaborate with this institution to develop methodology in measuring social media users’ behavior toward”, said Mr. Yose Rizal on his sharing session.

He also added that through this cooperation, SBM ITB students would have the opportunity to learn and grab data about social media monitoring and measurement on their internship period or thesis writing period in MediaWave.
