My unpublished thesis investigates the PRME implementation in SBM ITB for the last two years. The research finds that, according to the vision and mission of SBM ITB, all subjects delivered in the school ideally have three basic knowledge, namely: humanity, function and business. The undergraduate curriculum in particular, has already aligned with the PRME value which is nurturing the undergraduate students to be responsible leaders. But in reality, the research finds several facts that can weaken the PRME implementation in SBM ITB. Firstly, at the end of the bachelor study, every student needs to choose only one focused study. This limitation makes student rarely aware of the ethic and responsibility issues in several focused programs. Secondly, the knowledge of humanity is mostly delivered within the interest group of People and Knowledge Management (PKM). Other interest groups in SBM ITB are not explicitly include PRME values. Thirdly, only the elective course of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that have the complete components of ethic, responsibility and sustainability. Lastly, the research finds that the teaching of responsible management in all courses is not mandatory and promoted. This implies that the lecturer can deliver the value based on private or academic reasons.

Other than the course subjects, the research also investigates other type of practices of PRME in SBM ITB such as research, partnerships, and dialogues. The research finds that although lectures already have the awareness to imbed sustainability value to their research, there is no formal regulation mentioning this issue. Additionally, the research related to PRME is still very limited, especially those which are conducted within SBM ITB. Regarding dialogue and partnership, the research finds that there are already some dialogue and partnerships developed such as through regular seminars/workshops on global issues and the Social Enterprise for Economic Development (SEED) program. The research finds there are many lectures and students who may be aware of PRME, but they do not understand about the details of six principles of PRME. Therefore, the PRME team needs to do more socialization about these principles.

There are many opportunities for SBM ITB improvement related to the implementation of PRME principles and value. Based on interviews with faculty members at SBM ITB and previous study about PRME, SBM ITB is expected to continuously improve on the following aspects:

Curriculum

All subjects are expected to have the ethic, responsible and sustainable value in the syllabus. This can be achieved through assessment, service learning method, and reading references. It may be suggested to develop a subject that is focused on SDGs and PRME study.

Stakeholders

Every lecture should have an ethical, responsible and sustainable awareness. Their teaching method is expected to include those values, in order to deliver them to students in teaching and learning experience. Workshops about PRME and the implementation should be organised to enhance awareness and include them in lectures and daily activities.

Lecturer, students and staff are expected to understand about PRME through socialization, activity, workshop and supports from top management to reward those who embed them in their activities or work. For example, the staff who promote paperless in their daily activities can be rewarded as best employee.

Partnership with other local and global institutions to support the achievement of responsible graduates should be maintained and improved. It is expected that by working together the movement to achieve the sustainable development goals would be more effective and efficient.

Research

In the research field, there is expectation to create more research about PRME issues, especially about sustainability. The SBM ITB is also expected to promote by providing incentives for research which has implications to business, social and environment in order to support sustainable development goals.

Community

At the end, SBM ITB is expected to be the pioneer of responsible management education in Indonesia. The improvement of SBM ITB by implementing PRME principles and the contribution in the dialogue of global issues through PRME meetings are expected to make SBM ITB a PRME champion. After being a champion, the SBM ITB could promote the values of becoming a PRME signatory to all business schools in Indonesia. Perhaps, in the future, an initiative to be a PRME signatory could be considered as one of important standards in business school international accreditation. It is all for a better planet for next generation.
