SBM ITB, through the Entrepreneurship Study Program, invited Willy Meridian to a guest lecturer session in the Investment and Capital Analysis course on Friday (10/15/2021). Willy explained how to analyze stocks that will give maximum returns.

Willy Meridian, a trader and investor, explained investment to SBM ITB entrepreneurship students based on his more than 14 years of investing experience.

“If we want to invest, we must have a compass: what is the goal we want to achieve,” said Willy, who was previously the Head of Net Revenue Management (NRM) of DIAGEO in the opening of his lecture.

By knowing the goals, Willy believed that we could determine which companies are important for us to invest. Furthermore, Willy said that investing is easy, however, it is difficult to analyze the company to invest.

“Investing is easy; we just simply look for companies whose quality is above the price,” said Willy. It means investment is as easy as finding quality in a business. So, the quality should be higher than the price offered.

Yet, analyzing a quality business is also challenging. To see the company’s quality, Willy conveyed several points that could be used as a reference for consideration. First, Willy suggested choosing a company that is understandable.

“You have to look for a business that is easy to understand; you don’t have to invest in a business that you don’t understand,” said Willy. He gave an example: we can buy shares of a business that we use daily, such as products or services we often consume.

In addition, Willy also emphasized the importance of looking for businesses that have profitable prospects in the long term and good profitability. It is also crucial to look for management from competent and trustworthy companies. With these methods, Willy believed that investors will be able to invest in the business and generate the maximum return.
