Two SBM ITB graduates achieve perfect GPAs and publish in internationally reputable journals

September 4, 2025

Two graduates from the SBM ITB, for the August 2025 term, achieved a perfect Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 and achieved outstanding academic achievements in scientific publications (August 30). They are Rindawati Maulina, a graduate of the Doctor of Science in Management (DSM) Program, and Ririen Clara Octavia, a graduate of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program.

Rindawati achieved a GPA of 4.0. Furthermore, she also published two articles in reputable international journals ranked as Q1 and three articles in Q2 journals. Rindawati acknowledged that the doctoral journey is not an easy one.

“A doctoral degree is like a rollercoaster ride; there are ups and downs, but it can all be overcome with discipline and the right support,” she said in Bandung.

She highlighted that this achievement resulted from a combination of discipline, effective time management, and the support of her family and mentors. According to Rindawati, journal reviewers are indeed sharp, but that is precisely where she learns.

“Every revision makes me stronger. Never give up, even if you’re rejected, because every rejection actually makes you better,” she explained.

For her, publication is not just an academic requirement, but a crucial part of scientific contribution. The key is reading a lot of journals, understanding research gaps, and then writing consistently.

“This process is indeed long, but the results are invaluable,” she added.

In addition to her academic achievements, Rindawati Maulina, who is also a Manager at Bank Indonesia, was listed as one of 15 outstanding and inspiring Indonesian women included in the prestigious book “Contribution of Women in the Global Islamic Economy.” The book, published by the Islamic Economy Academy (Islamicea), features approximately 100 female figures from around the world who are considered to have made significant contributions to the development of the halal economy.

Rindawati has compiled her experiences into a book that serves as a comprehensive guide to various aspects of doctoral studies. It covers everything from the preparation stage and the overall journey to the challenges and triumphs she faced as a doctoral student.

She co-wrote the book with Adrian Ariatin, an alumnus of DSM-ITB, who initially focused on the experience of studying at DSM-ITB. However, the scope of the book was later expanded to better serve Indonesian doctoral students both nationally and internationally.

Meanwhile, Ririen successfully concluded her academic journey with a 4.0 GPA. She also successfully wrote an article accepted by a reputable international journal, Q2, which began as a college assignment. Ririen admitted she never expected the assignment to develop into a recognized scientific work.

“At first, I was simply working on a university assignment. However, after ongoing discussions with my supervisor and extensive reading of additional literature, my work was ultimately accepted by a Scopus journal,” she said.

She also highlighted the significance of time management in master’s studies, advising, “If you can complete a task now, don’t delay.”

“That’s what allows me to focus and maintain academic quality. The key is to have lots of discussions, read a lot, and don’t be afraid to try,” she added.

Both Rindawati and Ririen emphasized that the key to success is not just intelligence, but discipline, consistency, and a never-give-up attitude. Rindawati emphasized the importance of mental resilience in the face of publication rejection.

Meanwhile, Ririen demonstrated that serious commitment to each assignment can pave the way for greater achievements. Both of their achievements are clear evidence that, with hard work, a supportive academic environment, and a strong passion for learning, SBM ITB students can make significant contributions to the international academic world.
