Tips for a successful presentation, from hook to action

September 16, 2025

Presentations are often seen as a way to test one’s ability to convey ideas effectively. However, for Muhamad Haikal Azhari, the focus should be on connection and delivery rather than striving for perfection. As a speaker at the Idealogy 2025 session, which took place on the second floor of the SBM ITB Auditorium on Saturday, September 13th, Haikal shared valuable tips on how to collaborate effectively and deliver presentations. These tips are beneficial for students participating in projects, competitions, and even in their future careers.

Drawing on examples from his experience in the L’Oréal presentation brainstorming competition, Haikal emphasized that success doesn’t lie solely in having the best idea. Instead, success stems from clear delivery, teamwork, and a strong first impression.

Haikal introduced a simple formula: Hook – Problem – Solution – Call to Action (CTA). A strong hook will spark curiosity. A well-crafted problem statement can foster empathy and understanding. The solution addresses the problem. The CTA concludes with clarity about the promise.

A successful presentation relies on a balance between hacker (technical development), hustler (marketing), and hipster (design). Each role brings technical skills, business strategy, and creative design. She emphasized the importance of team practice and role alignment before a presentation, as the opening of a presentation can significantly impact its overall success.

Presentations aren’t about standing out alone, but about how a team can connect with the audience through storytelling, clarity, and confidence. The insights Kamaye shared helped participants develop essential skills in communication and collaboration.
