Jagat Prirayani, Ph.D. serves as an Assistant Professor at the School of Business and Management, Bandung Institute of Technology (SBM – ITB). He holds a Ph.D. from Adam Smith Business School, the University of Glasgow, with a specialization in economics, and a master’s degree in policy economics from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (UIUC), both of which were fully funded by the US and UK governments. Dr. Prirayani also completed his undergraduate studies in Industrial Engineering at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). His experience includes roles as a scholar at St. John’s University, New York, and the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Prior to his tenure at ITB, Dr. Prirayani gained valuable experience working at the Central Bank of Indonesia (BI) and later with the Indonesia Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan) as a bank supervisor. He was responsible in supervising and auditing banks under two provinces of South Sumatra and Bangka Belitung islands. He was also involved in the monetary economics team in the Bali regional office and North Sulawesi office. During his work in BI, Dr. Prirayani was a top five of bank supervisor in rural bank intermediate certification and a top five of chartered information system auditor certification. Before joining BI and OJK, he also contributed to the service development team at Astra Insurance and served as a project assistant at Total E&P Indonesie in East Kalimantan.
Dr. Prirayani has distinguished himself as a top 3% independent consultant on Upwork Global Inc., the world’s largest marketplace connecting businesses with independent professionals, headquartered in the United States. His clients are spanning over 30 countries and coming from various institutions such as the University of Texas, University of Abu Dhabi, Paris School of Economics, London Business School, University of Chicago, ThomasNet Inc., SpaceKnow Inc., Joseon Cybernation, and foreign central banks, among others.
He also actively participates as a speaker at various events, focusing on discussions related to social issues. He represented Indonesia as a speaker at the 1st Southeast Asian American Youth Conference, which the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur held. Recently, Dr. Prirayani just won the best popular scientific article as a runner-up in the Ministry of Finance learning festival 2025 with his paper titled “The Role of Expectation in Managing Fiscal Policy amid the Global Economic Pressure.” In 2025, the European Union appointed him as one of the top 20 academics in ASEAN region to join the Scholars Programme on EU-ASEAN Relations. In addition to his teaching and consulting activities, Dr. Prirayani is also publishing research and books both locally and internationally.
