Valid Hasyimi has always believed that ideas gain real value when they can be applied in everyday life. With a background in urban and regional planning that later expanded into management, he has spent over a decade learning, researching, and contributing to discussions in classrooms, research teams, and policy forums. Much of his work focuses on themes such as food security, sustainability, and MSMEs, where he relies on systems thinking to better understand complexity. From working with government agencies on development strategies to contributing to international publications, he sees his role as helping to translate theory into practical insights that support better decision-making and stronger communities.
At SBM ITB, Valid approaches teaching as a chance to learn together with his students. In his courses on decision-making, negotiation, and co-creation, he aims to create an environment where students feel encouraged to explore, question, and apply concepts to real-world challenges. Outside the classroom, he continues to be involved in research and consulting projects, where collaboration with different stakeholders is key. For him, research is less about showcasing expertise and more about connecting perspectives to build bridges toward meaningful change.
