An achievement has been made by School of Business and Management (SBM) ITB students at the national level. The Fortuna team consisting of Palita Rana Putinagari (Entrepreneurship 2021), Laksmi Azzahra Kaheraning (Management 2021), and Savina Dinda Ramadhianty (Management 2021) won the second place in the 2019 White Paper Competition Industrial Workshop organized by the Industrial Engineering Student Association of Gajah Mada University (UGM) on 13-15 September 2019.

White paper is a document explaining an issue that occurred, details of the problem, and solutions offered with a good visual communication design as well as a short document that summarizes the results of research on an issue that can be applied to answer a problem. White paper has been widely used abroad to resolve cases. However, this was the first event to be held in Indonesia.  The theme of the competition is “Progress of Financial Technology and It’s Challenges”.

In the first stage, the participants were invited to choose sub-themes that had been set by the committee. After selecting a sub-theme, the participants were required to send an abstract and then submit a full proposal. Participants who passed the final were invited to Yogyakarta to participate in the next step, to provide a study case, write a paper and present it to the judge. In the competition, an Industrial Workshop seminar was also held with the theme “Shaping the Future of Industry through Financial Technology Innovations” held at the Aston Aston Lotus Ballroom in Yogyakarta.

Palita Rana, one of the Fortuna team members, shared her experience of participating in the competition. At the initial stage, their team raised the issue of Fintech disruption in the conventional payment system for city transportation. Apart from raising the issue, the Fortuna team was also given materials on the Fintech P2P issue by the OJK and a very interesting coaching white paper. After the material had been provided, they were required to give problem solving of the Fintech issue presented, namely the danger of illegal Fintech. From the processes, the Fortuna team won the second place, beating other teams from universities in Indonesia. “Overall, the competition is very interesting, very challenging, and has been a very good and memorable experience. It is hoped that this white paper contest can be developed again in Indonesia.”, said Palita Rana when interviewed by the SBM-ITB student reporter on Tuesday (09/17/1019). In the competition, the first place was won by ITB students from the geodetic engineering and planology engineering study program, while the third winner was won by students from UGM Industrial engineering.
