Waste is always seen as a problem and worthless. Indonesia is one of the most contributing countries in the world. Whether it’s industrial waste, plastic, clothing waste, and so on. However, waste is more than that. Waste could be transformed into something valuable that moves the economy of a country.

Farven, Nyampih, and Rewear discussed it in their webinar titled “Peluang Bidang Waste Management dalam Pemanfaatan Peluang Bisnis Modern” (Waste Management Chances in Utilizing Modern Business Opportunities) on Friday, 23rd April 2021. The speakers of this webinar are representatives of each business; Elma (CEO of Farven), Minaria (Head of Marketing Communications of Nyampih), and Mardi (CMO of Rewear). This webinar is moderated by Karin (CEO of Nyampih) and Naufal (COO of Farven).

This webinar aims to tell that there are still many ways to overcome the waste emergency that occurs, from the habit of categorizing waste to upcycling the waste into something more valuable. By this collaboration, Nyampih, Farven, and Rewear hope that they can save the earth and increase the economic value of waste into modern and sustainable business opportunities for many people.

In this webinar, the three businesses see waste as an opportunity to get money while solving society’s problems. The first speaker is Elma from Farven. She shared about how their business is trying to reduce the harmful effects of fashion waste by producing fashion made from eco-friendly materials. She also reminded the attendees to check the label before buying clothes.

The next speaker is Mardi from Rewear. He shared about his business strives to conduct efforts in reducing fashion waste by up-cycling the waste into new clothes. He also reminds the attendees to buy “what we need” not “what we want”. The most important thing about the explanations when he started talking about sustainable fashion. He was talking about fashion practices that emphasize the values of the various parties involved, including the environment and humanity. After giving an explanation of sustainable fashion, he also provided an overview of the views that occur between customers and producers.

Lastly, the speaker from Nyampih, Minaria, shared her business goal to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in TPA by providing waste management services that prioritize waste categorization. This business constitutes creating an application to make it easier for customers to order the services. With this application, the customer will also get a benefit in the form of a reward for exchanging points with basic needs. Based on data from the Katadata, the waste products of Indonesian people amount to 175,000 tons per day. With the increasing waste production in Indonesia, the citizens will feel the impact directly. Seeing this condition, she and her friends in Nyampih want to encourage people to categorize their waste because through that endeavor, it may decrease the waste volume up to 70 percent.

This webinar was successful in encouraging people to care about waste management with the many questions arising about waste management processing to the current state of waste management and from there it can also be seen that there are not only a few people who understand waste management. They just have not found the right way to utilize it. From this webinar, it is hoped that people will care more about waste management and start using products produced from waste.
