SBM ITB Talks is back with the interesting topic to support you building your business. In 45th episodes, SBM ITB Talks will discuss how the business builds a good team and creates an innovative product. With Siti Farah Mutia, CEO and Founder of Forbetric (For Better Electricity), we will discuss the topics deeply based on her experiences building this business. A glimpse about Forbetric, is a start up who runs in the automation technology industry. Forbetric’s product is the application to manage the electricity use by automation systems. Therefore, every person can save electricity.

For the discussion with Siti Farah Mutia, there are several key points:

  • Knowing your business well

The first thing that business people do is knowing what your business is. What the business purpose is, what the product is, and other aspects that make us more aware of the business. If we have already known our business well, we have the solid foundation to build an advanced business and we can go to the next step of building our team. Usually, the business could use some tools to understand more about the business, one of the tools is the business model fit or business model canvas.

  • Defining the right person

Building a business team is the fundamental thing of the business process. Siti Farah said her thoughts, “We should define the right people to get a responsibility to run the business. We should’ve known what the function that we need in the business. Due to the Forbretric is a startup company, usually consists of three actors which are hustler, hacker, and hipster. Hustlers and hipsters could be occupied by the management students like me and several of my friends. For the hacker, we need support from the IT students. Defining the right person is hard for the business. We should define the people who have similar purposes with our business.”

  • Unity the purpose

Siti Farah continued her thoughts, “After defining the person that appropriates the business function, we must unite the purpose. As the entrepreneur student and founder of the business, we should demonstrate what the business is to every member in the business until the member understands about the business and every member has the same purpose in running a business. So that the team could be more solid and every business process could be running well.”

  • Doing a routine evaluation

“We know that pandemic Covid-19 generate the barrier for us to work together. But, we will not use this situation as a barrier to us improving our business. We always do a meeting routinely to evaluate what the process has already done and what areas should be improved. Absolutely, the meeting was held online. In the meeting, we also do several brainstorming to improve our product by defining the other innovation that makes our product become advanced. In order to make our business still running, we should still become a professional in doing our work in each home.” Siti Farah continued her statement.

  • Be brave to take the opportunity

In the last key point of discussion, Siti Farah said, “In building an innovative product, every member of the team should have an innovative mindset to take an opportunity and be brave to try new things, especially if you want to deep into the technology industry. The technology industry is a complex industry that has always changed. So, this industry needs a person who is brave to try this industry. After that, we could create innovative products that are still appropriate to the market and society needs. Therefore, our product could be accepted by the market. There are a lot of tools that could be used to build a successful business product, one of the tools is product/market fit tools.”

“All the discussion topics that we have already discussed were coming from my experiences while I was studying in SBM ITB as an entrepreneur student. I got a lot of knowledge and insight that supports the business process of Forbretrict,” was said by Siti Farah as the last statement in this episode.
