One of the uniqueness of SBM ITB lies in its practical courses that allow students to apply their knowledge in real-life business practices. The Integrated Business Practice course reflects this value, where students are given a chance to intern in a company throughout the course to let them gain working experience. The interns must report their progress in the auditorium session. In this particular session, SBM ITB invited Trianita Adhi, the Founder and Creative Director of Woodka Watch as the special guest facilitator to share internships from the employer’s perspective.

From Trianita’s point of view as an employer, having interns is fun and pleasant because interns usually bring in fresh insight and out-of-the-box ideas that long-term employees might be unable to create. However, internships should not only benefit the employer. Trianita reckons that it is essential for interns to state their aspirations and expectations clearly at the start of the internship.

“I personally prefer interns that have already set their goals or what to learn from the internship. That way, the employer and interns can communicate and figure out the middle ground to make it work for them,” said Trianita.

Trianita also refered to the internship as a “golden moment” because students have the opportunity to learn directly from business practitioners. Moreover, working in the fashion/lifestyle industry, Trianita believes that having an internship experience in the field would give them an advantage due to its fast-paced and dynamic nature. It would prepare students well to face the ever-changing market. It also offers the chance for wide networking due to its involvement with various people. Therefore, Trianita encourages students to take advantage of the program.

“Being an intern in a lifestyle brand would allow you to meet many people–vendors, influencers, partners, even media. Therefore, make sure to build strong relationships with them. It will help you greatly in the future,” Trianita emphasizes.

Trianita’s last advice to students is to make the best out of their internships. “Just think of internships as a laboratory, where you are free to experiment and try many things. Go the extra mile and make your performance exceeds your employer’s expectation. Your time in SBM ITB is short, so utilize it,” Trianita concluded.
