SBM ITB organized workshops and internal discussions on sustainable education. The theme of the series of workshops held from October to November 2022 is the formation of an educational organization that has and implements sustainable development principles. The SBM ITB is a global initiative called the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME).

Melia Famiola Hariadi, the Coordinator of PRME SBM ITB, stated that to improve the quality of the next generation, educational institutions must change their framework of thinking and working patterns toward sustainable development. One of them is implementing the six PRME approaches in the educational system.

The six PRME approaches are PRME Champion, a commitment to work collaboratively to achieve the highest performance in creating a conducive business education environment; PRME Working Group, which brings social and environmental issues in business practice into various groups of working groups; PRME Global Student, which is a global platform that emphasizes the values of collaboration and collective reflection; PRME Lego “ï5”, development of capability packages to help the next generation to advance the principles of sustainable development; PRME Work Tour, which supports research and development programs as a form of initiation of sustainable programs; and PRME Share Information Progress, a commitment to report regularly for 24 months to initiate PRME implementation.

“SBM ITB has provided the foundation for sustainable development for each student in its curriculum since its inception. The question is how far these values can be internalized before they manifest in their professional lives in the business world,” Melia explained.

Melia stated that the PRME principle had been implemented at SBM ITB. This is reflected in various community service activities, ranging from the Green Terrace project to create a circular society, Pitching Clinic, to the ICMEM & Swiss Innovation Challenges, a pioneering business competition based on sustainable development principles.

A series of workshops have been planned to assist SBM ITB in becoming a sustainable development educational organization. Heru Prasetyo (Indonesian Government Task Force for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+), Atik Aprianingsih (SBM ITB Lecturer), Bangun Nuswanto (Manager of PT Kaltim Prima Coal), and Sonny Sukada will participate in the workshops (Director ESG & Sustainability, Landscape Indonesia). This is a manifestation of SBM ITB’s commitment to collaborate with various parties who have implemented environmental, social, and good corporate governance (ESG) principles in large industries in Indonesia.
