The School of Business and Management, Institut Teknologi Bandung (SBM ITB), officially welcomed hundreds of new undergraduate students from the class of 2029, referring to the estimated graduation year, at the “2026 Undergraduate Student Welcoming” event at the ITB East General Lecture Building, Bandung (August 5). This event was an important opportunity for aspiring leaders to understand SBM ITB’s unique ecosystem, which emphasises entrepreneurship, leadership, and innovation.
The Dean of SBM ITB, Prof. Dr. Aurik Gustomo, S.T., M.T., emphasized the fundamental differences between SBM ITB and traditional economics faculties. The Dean also highlighted SBM’s international academic environment, where all lectures are delivered in English and are globally accredited by AACSB.
“SBM ITB focuses on strategies for increasing revenue through a growth mindset, not just cost efficiency. We educate you to become innovative leaders with an entrepreneurial spirit,” stated Prof. Gustomo. Aurik.
The Head of the Undergraduate Management Study Program, Dr. Nila Armelia Windasari, explained the fast pace of study, where students will complete 144 credits in just three years. She encouraged students to embrace failure as part of the learning process.
“We facilitate the best learning experience, including opportunities for internships and global recruitment at multinational companies like Uniqlo,” said Dr. Nila.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Study Program, Dr. Sonny Rustiadi, explained the program’s history as a pioneer in Indonesia. SBM ITB positions itself as a hub for commercialising various technical inventions from 11 other ITB faculties. Through a “multidisciplinary” pathway, entrepreneurship students can collaborate with engineering or science students to build technology-based startups (technopreneurship).
SBM ITB lecturer Yorga Permana delivered an inspiring message about the importance of grit and adaptability during their studies at SBM ITB. He reminded students that the ability to bounce back from failure is key.
“ITB is shaping you through every challenge,” he said.
The Coordinator of the Joint Preparation Phase (TPB) of SBM ITB, Dr. Jagat Prirayani, reminded students to maintain high discipline. There is a minimum attendance requirement of 80%, and strict academic integrity standards prohibit the use of AI or any other forms of cheating. The welcoming ceremony concluded with a group photo session and introductions of the advisors who will accompany the students on their academic journey in Jatinangor (first year) and in Bandung. Embracing the spirit of “SBM for Impact,” the class of 2029 aims to contribute positively to the welfare of both Indonesian and global society.
