ITB provides an opportunity for prospective postgraduate students to obtain information about their chosen study program through the Research Student Program to prepare for the Doctoral Program. Early preparation through this program become the important step to enroll and start an embarking journey with DSM ITB.

Research Student Activities

In DSM Research Students program, students will involve in certain activities, such as:

Type A

  • Research students are required to research guided/accompanied by an assigned promoter group and interact actively with the research teams in DSM ITB.
  • Research students with a non-management master’s degree background shall take 1-2 elective courses (2-6 credits) in the DSM program, recommended by an assigned promoter group. Research Students will get grades recognized as fulfilling courses in the DSM program through the Credit Earning mechanism. The list of elective courses is as follows: Systems Thinking, Advanced Topics in Management 1, Advanced Topics in Management 2, and Research in Business.
  • After the research is completed, the research students will receive a statement letter explaining that they have researched a particular topic signed by the DSM Program Director.
  • To enroll as a regular student in the DSM program, research students Type A must confirm to the Study Program not less than 1 month before the DSM program commencing in August. Early preparation becomes an important step to enrolling and starting an embarking journey with DSM ITB.

Type B

  • Research students are required to research while being guided/accompanied by an assigned promoter group and interacting actively with research members in DSM ITB
  • Research students with a non-management master’s degree background shall take 1-2 elective courses (2-6 credits) in the DSM program, recommended by an assigned promoter group. Research Students will get grades recognized as fulfilling courses in the DSM program through the Credit Earning mechanism. The list of elective courses is as follows: Systems Thinking, Advanced Topics in Management 1, Advanced Topics in Management 2, and Research in Business.
  • After the research is completed, the research students will receive a statement letter explaining that they have researched a particular topic signed by the DSM Program Director.
  • To enroll as a regular student in the DSM program, research students Type B are required to follow the selection process of the DSM program.

Cost Estimation

Every research student is required to take max. 2 semester of research with total amount of Rp. 5.000.000 per semester (max. 4 credits)

Every course credit taken in DSM program costs Rp. 3.000.000 per credit

For Type A research students, registration fee is Rp. 750.000

For Type B research students, registration fee is Rp. 600.000

How to Apply

To enroll as a research student, applicants can enroll through Type A or Type B enrollment process.

Type A

Type A applicant enrolls through the ITB Postgraduate admission process and must follow the DSM ITB selection process in the August intake.

Type A applicant who meets the academic standard from the study program and promoter to do research in 2 semesters will receive a letter of acceptance to the Research Student Program.

  1. Filling out the registration form;
  2. Providing a copy of the latest diploma for Bachelor, Master, and/or Applied Masters to enter the Doctoral Program;
  3. Providing passport-sized pas photo
  4. Providing a letter of commitment to participate in the ITB Doctoral Program;
  5. Providing a statement of ability to finance the program at ITB;
