Attended by prominent presenter from various countries Dr. Ir. Aries F Firman present his topic titled “Conflict resolution through mediation: Case study in a dam and hydropower project”.

Dr. Ir. Aries F Firman has been active in sharing project management knowledge to interested parties from oil & gas, aviation as well as NGO executives all over the archipelago. Recently, he focuses his research in Leadership, Cross Cultural and Project Management in addition to the competitiveness of Hydropower.

Seminar Background:

Infrastructure performance plays key role of global competitiveness. In order to assure infrastructure performance, sustainability is a must. Some characteristics of sustainable infrastructure are socially accepted, delivering maximum economic impact, and environmental friendly.

RCSEE, as a research centre under the ministry of Public Works has been establishing Institutional reforms on long-terms research programming, join collaboration and research initiatives, capacity building, and social laboratory and database development in order to support sustainable infrastructure development through its research projects.

In the upcoming years, a numbers of strategic issues on infrastructure development have been identified to produce significant impacts to social aspects, economic benefits, and the environment. Social conflicts frequently occurred due to the current land acquisition and resettlement programs which predominantly focus on the physical relocation rather than restoring the livelihoods of the displaced people, no tools/instruments available to accurately assess economic impacts of infrastructure developments, and the visible impacts of climate change have urged government agencies, private sectors, NGOs, and community groups to work hand-in-hand to increase local resilience by maximizing adaptive capacity on the one hand, and improving mitigation technology, on the other.

This seminar attempts to address the aforementioned issues by acknowledging innovative methods, approaches and best practices. A productive dialogue would then be created on various topics surrounding the three sub themes: conflict resolution, economic impact assessment, also environmental vulnerability and resilience.
