SBM ITB, specifically the Master & Doctor of Science in Management (MSM-DSM) study program, for the first time, released a Doctoral collaboration program with PT Kaltim Prima Coal Indonesia. The opening of the first class was held online on Friday, August 27, 2021, and was attended by leaders from both parties and participants/students.

Director of the MSM-DSM study program Yuliani Dwi Lestari said that, as a leading business school in Indonesia, SBM ITB is committed to innovating in education and seeks to reach people from various segments including professionals.

Furthermore, Yuliani emphasized, “there are many professionals in the company who have practical experience, as well as broad insight in terms of business and management. So that through this program, it is hoped that we can work together on how to transfer practical insights (especially professionals from partner agencies) into scientific knowledge so that they can make a more significant contribution through action research in the Energy sector.”

This doctoral collaboration program is designed per a research-based curriculum while still emphasizing substance and topics related to the energy sector. The program also combines research-based learning, non-curriculum programs such as the MSM-DSM Lounge: Academic & Research Forum, etc., aiming to produce prestigious publications and have a broad impact on the industry. In the future, Yuliani hopes that more enterprises will actively improve the competence of human resources through education in collaboration with universities.

Acting CEO Mr Ido Hutabarat, said that “the mining sector plays an essential role for our economy, but during the pandemic crisis we face uncertainty from various aspects such as market conditions, prices, as well as other operational efficiency challenges. In addition, pressure from the international community related to environmental impacts, the greenhouse effect, carbon emissions from the mining sector is also one of the issues that concern us. So the challenge for this sector is how to create affordable energy sources but still minimize/anticipate environmental and social impacts. For this reason, the Doctoral collaboration program is expected to help increase competence, create excellent human beings, change the way of thinking to see the future by prioritizing innovation and competitiveness for this sector.

Furthermore, one of the representatives of the participants, namely Poltak Tarcisius Sinaga, said that all participants/doctoral students appreciated the company’s support for the development of human resource competencies through further studies at the doctoral level. It is hoped that this program collaboration can significantly contribute to both the company, the industry, and the broader impact.
