Industry 4.0 initiatives have triggered various startups companies in Indonesia. However, the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology and the founder of startup decacorn Indonesia, Nadiem Makarim, said that 90% of startups fail.
Realizing this phenomenon, SBM ITB lecturers and researchers, Taufik Fathurrohman Ph.D. and Prof. Dr. Ir. Sudarso Kaderi Wiryono, DEA, and the risk management practitioner Arief Karna S.Si, MSM, BCCS, launched the book entitled “Manajemen Risiko Untuk Startup” (Risk Management for Startups) based on the research results from SBM ITB, published by Kompas.
“Sudarso explained that currently, the enthusiasm of the youth and students in building startups is high, but the potential for failure is also high also due to the uncertain business environment; so, risk management needs to be implemented,” said Sudarso at the launch of Manajemen Risiko Untuk Startup book, through youtube and zoom.
The book also explains that risk management has been applied in various sectors and industries and has effectively managed negative risks faced by companies. Furthermore, the book also presents theoretical and practical risk management in startup companies. Sudarso revealed that, with the implementation of well risk management in startup companies, it is hoped that the level of failure risk will be reduced or mitigated.
“How do we maintain existing values and mitigate existing negative risks,” said Sudarno, who is a member of the business and financial risk expertise group, SBM ITB.
The book launch was also attended by several panelists, such as Dr. Hilman Palaon (Vice president of financial service and inclusion Gojek), Alfred Boediman, Ph.D. (Director, Kejora Capital & Adjunct Professor of Chicago Booth School of Business), and Arief Karna S.Si, MSM, BCCS (management practitioner and lecturer risk), and opened by the Deputy Chief Editor of Kompas, Tri Agung Kristanto.

Hillman added that the book :Manajemen Risiko Untuk Startup” also explains the risks that startup businesses need to pay attention to, so Hilman hoped that this book would inspire new decacorns from Indonesia. “Hopefully, it can contribute to creating the next decacorn from Indonesia,” said Hilman.
