Bandung, January 31 2022 – SBM ITB collaborates with the Pangandaran district government held a Webinar entitled “Women’s role in digital marketing to expand the supply chain network of fishery products”. This event was also supported by a grant from the NORHED program, Norway. The keynote speakers were Ira Fachira, PhD from SBM ITB and Salfitri Wijanarti, SSi, MT, a professional photographer.

In collaboration with the Pangandaran district government, especially the marine, fisheries and food security services, this event aims to provide an understanding of the importance of digital marketing for women who run businesses of processed marine fish products, such as salted fish, shredded fish, fish crackers, etc. Digital marketing can expand the entrepreneurs’ market access, the majority of whom are from fishermen families in Pangandaran Regency.

The head of the NORHED SBM ITB team, Dr. eng. Nur Budi Mulyono said that to improve the welfare of SMEs in fishery products, the collaboration between academics, government and entrepreneurs is necessary for an ecosystem supporting each other. In this case, universities can become an orchestrator or hubs in collaboration and system development needed.

Dedi Surachman, S Sos, MM reminded the Department of Marine Fisheries and Food Security of Pangandaran Regency about the importance of maintaining product quality when the market is expanding both domestically and abroad. He emphasized the need to expand the market, not merely expecting tourists to come to Pangandaran.

In this workshop, Salfitri trained the participants to take attractive product photos. “To produce excellent photos, you don’t need expensive tools. Smartphone cameras can create attractive photos. What we need is creativity without reducing information about the product character conveyed through the photo,” said Salfitri.

Facebook and WhatsApp are two social media applications frequently used by SMEs for digital marketing. Ira mentioned the differences in the character of consumers using Whatsapp and Facebook so that we have to approach them differently. “in Facebook social, you should share your daily life instead of directly selling your products,” said Ira.

The event, moderated by Akbar Adhiutama, PhD, an expert on product development for SBM ITB, was attended by representatives from 20 processing and marketer groups in Pangandaran district. In addition, this event was also attended by eight extension workers from the Department of Marine Affairs, Fisheries and Food Security of Pangandaran Regency.
