Practicing Lecturer at SBM ITB, Agung Wicaksono completed his assignment as the Deputy Chair of B20 Taskforce Energy Sustainability and Climate, part of the role of Indonesia as the president of the 2022 G20 Summit. Together with six other task forces in B20 (Business 20 as G20 dialogue partners ), they have submitted an agreement between business people from G20 member countries represented by Shinta Kamdani Chair B20 to President Joko Widodo, President of the G20 2022, on Monday, November 14, 2022.

The Komunike B20 will serve as policy input at the G20 Summit on November 15-16, 2022 in Bali. After the B20 Komunike, the G20 members agreed to make a joint declaration of 52 points, called the G20 Bali Leaders Declaration, on November 16, 2022.

According to Agung, the B20 Task Force, led by the Pertamina Main Director, Nicke Widyawati as Chair, has produced policy recommendations and business actions. One of the agreed business actions, PT Jababeka Infrastruktur, together with Pertamina and several Jababeka anchor tenants, such as Unilever, L’Oreal, and Hitachi, are committed to realizing the Jababeka industrial area to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050.

“This is the first commitment in Southeast Asia from an industrial area,” said Agung, the Managing Director of Jababeka Infrastructure, on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Hundred and Fifty companies from 17 G20 member countries in the B20 Energy Taskforce agreed to promote a fair, orderly, and affordable energy transition. Don’t let the energy transition cause business entities to lose economic income so people have difficulty accessing energy.

“There must be a balance between energy transition and availability,” said Agung. “Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ suggestion, for example, as one of the Co-Chairs of the task force from Japan, is a gradual transition through the use of gas and nuclear, which, although not yet renewable (green), are cleaner (clean).”

Agung is a lecturer from the People and Knowledge Management expertise group at SBM ITB. According to Agung, several academics were also involved in providing their input in the B20 negotiations since last year. Among them, Prof. Togar Simatupang, a professor in the SBM ITB Operation and Performance Management expertise group, attended the B20 Task Force Energy Sustainability and Climate seminar in collaboration with BKTI PII (Indonesian Engineers Association) a few weeks ago.

As a business school, SBM ITB is committed to sustainability through the global initiative The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). PRME is an initiative with a framework of thinking and working patterns toward sustainable development. Through this initiative, SBM ITB is committed to educating students to become human beings who uphold the principles of balanced development with natural sustainability.

SBM, in 2022, has prepared to focus on and lead in business school practices implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and collaborate with various parties, such as alumni, industry, and other institutions at home and abroad.
