SBM ITB has successfully organized an asynchronous learning program titled “Indonesia Corporate Renewable Procurement Executive Education 2023.” In collaboration with the Rocky Mountain Institute, a non-governmental organization based in Colorado, United States, CRP aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of Indonesia’s workforce, enabling them to navigate the transition towards renewable energy.

“We have acquired both practical and theoretical knowledge, as well as valuable insights, and expanded our professional network, which will be highly beneficial as we navigate the renewable energy industry and business,” stated Tantiono Sujono, Senior Manager at Mitsubishi HC Capital and Finance Indonesia, a participant in CRP batch 1, on Thursday, May 10th.

The program involved 50 participants and is scheduled for stages between August and December 2023. Participants will delve into the technical intricacies of managing renewable energy within companies, particularly in the procurement sector, with guidance from experts and practitioners.

These experts and practitioners come from SBM ITB and external educators. They include Yudo Anggoro, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Policy and Public Management at SBM ITB; Dr. Widhyawan Prawiraatmadja, former Indonesian Governor for OPEC; Dr. Manahan Parlindungan Saragih Siallagan, Director of the Big Data Analysis and Social Simulation Laboratory; Dr. Ir. Aries Faisal Firman, recipient of the Best Presenter award; and Dr. Ir. Subiakto Sukarno, MBA, a Senior Financial Management Academic.

The program also featured several external experts, including Sonny Keraf, State Minister for the Environment in the National Unity Cabinet; Lucia Karina, Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability Director for Indonesia and PNG at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners; Djoko Prasetyo, Indonesia National Committee Conseil International des Grands Research Electriques (CIGRE); Darmawan Prasojo, President Director of the State Electricity Company; Fabby Tumiwa, Executive Director at the Institute of Essential Services Reform (IESR); Nisriyanto, President, and CEO of Supreme Energy; Dr. Socrates Rudy Sirait, Senior Investment Executive; Lamtiura Hutabarat, Investment Practitioner from the International Finance Corporation; Mada Ayu Habsari, Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Solar Energy Association (AESI); and Stephanus Milyas Wardana, Vice President of Airport Engineering Development at PT Angkasa Pura II.

The CRP program is divided into four modules. The first module introduces the global issue of climate change. The second module focuses on the development of energy purchase agreements. The third module explores direct investments in renewable assets, while the final module covers capital, banking access, and scaling up. It is anticipated that this module will provide a comprehensive understanding of the role and impact of finance in the capital structure to attain the appropriate scale in the energy transition.

“This is a recommended course for gaining fundamental knowledge about renewable energy in general and the current landscape in Indonesia. The speakers not only offer insights but also provide a holistic perspective to help us better understand this issue,” said Satridia Juliandini, Vice President of Bank Mandiri.

In addition to the module-based curriculum, the program includes sessions for sharing business experiences from various perspectives. For instance, discussions have discussed the feasibility of nuclear energy as an alternative energy source. Indonesia must carefully consider the capabilities and capacities of nuclear infrastructure and human resources, given the substantial risks associated with nuclear utilization.
