Investment Management (IM) involves professionally handling securities, such as stocks and bonds, to achieve profitable investment objectives. This management is commonly carried out through investment contracts or collective agreements, such as mutual funds, serving the needs of both institutional and individual investors.

Students from the Master of Business Administration program at the SBM ITB had the opportunity to gain insights into the world of investment directly from experts. Lolita Liliana, the Head of Investment and Product Development Specialist at Sucor Asset Management, delivered a guest lecture on Capital Market Analysis at the MBA ITB Campus in Bandung on Monday (20/11). In the lecture, Lolita explained how investment managers like Sucor develop products and market mutual funds to investors.

Founded in 1997, PT Sucorinvest Asset Management initially focused on managing funds for institutions before diversifying into retail products. The company is set to manage IDR 23.08 trillion in funds with 1.08 million customers in 2023.

Lolita outlined that creating mutual fund products commences with analysis and market research. The initiation of new products involves sales personnel who engage with customers daily. An investment specialist then creates the product portfolios, requiring coordination with various departments such as Information Technology, Human Resources, Operations, Marketing Communications, Sales, and Compliance.

The product proceeds to create a prospectus and fund management agreement after registration with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and appointing a custodian bank, legal consultant, notary, and others. Each product is assigned a tax registration number with its taxpayer identification number (NPWP).

IM establishes investment policies, system restriction settings, and marketing efforts upon product release. Furthermore, IM prepares a fundraising report. According to Lolita, several factors must be considered when crafting a product portfolio, including asset allocation, sector allocation, asset selection, asset considerations, trading strategy, and portfolio performance evaluation.

For those aspiring to pursue a career in the capital markets, Lolita recommended various certifications such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Wakil Penjamin Emisi Efek (WPEE), Wakil Perantara Pedagang Efek (WPPE), Wakil Agen Penjual Efek Reksa Dana (WAPERD), Wakil Manajer Investasi (WMI), hingga Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
