The development of information technology has transformed many business processes. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) are particularly noteworthy as they create new opportunities for immersive experiences in games, virtual art exhibitions, and interactive storytelling.

Online platforms for art and design, such as Etsy, Behance, and Adobe Creative Cloud, have revolutionized how artists and designers create, share, and sell their work. This was highlighted by An Nahl Akmal Hakim, Co-founder and Creative Director of Meranti Creative Lab (MCL), during a guest lecture at the SBM ITB on Tuesday (4/6).

Akmal’s lecture also discussed the practical applications of Odoo ERP, a business management software that includes customer relationship management, e-commerce, billing, accounting, manufacturing, warehouse, project management, and inventory management. He demonstrated how this technology can enhance operational and management efficiency in various creative industries, providing real-world examples of its impact.

According to Akmal, technology adoption is heavily influenced by social media. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Twitter(X) enable individuals to become content creators and influencers, significantly altering marketing and advertising strategies. Additionally, 3D printing technology impacts product design, fashion, and crafts by allowing creators to produce physical prototypes and finished products directly from digital designs.

Akmal’s lecture highlighted the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning in the creative landscape. From generating music and visual arts to writing content, these technologies are reshaping how we create. He discussed tools like OpenAI’s DALL-E and GPT-3, which can produce artwork and written content, and how AI-based analytics support more targeted and personalized marketing campaigns.

Blockchain and NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) have introduced new methods for artists to sell digital art and for collectors to own unique digital assets, significantly impacting the art market. Crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Patreon empower creatives to fund their projects directly through their fan base, bypassing traditional funding channels.

Technological advances have enabled remote collaboration tools such as Zoom, Slack, Google Workspace, and Adobe Creative Cloud. These platforms facilitate remote work and collaboration among creative professionals. By understanding and applying these technologies, the creative world continues to evolve, presenting innovations that transform how we interact with and create art.
