Three students from the Bandung Institute of Technology, representing the Aksara team, have won the marketing case competition organized by the Management Investment Student Team (MIST) of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI). This competition was part of the 21st Marketing Insight, Seminar, and Training (MIST FEB UI) held in collaboration with Prudential Syariah last February.
The team comprises Areta Bratandari (Entrepreneurship, SBM-ITB), Aurelia Viny Nathania (Entrepreneurship), and Audrey Santoso (Craft, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design). They successfully competed against students from across Indonesia and won in the grand final round.
In addressing the case challenge, the Aksara team worked collaboratively to analyze the problem while assigning specific roles based on each member’s strengths. Areta focused on financial analysis, Aurel on strategy development, and Audrey on designing the UI/UX for a website mockup.
“We didn’t expect to win first place. In the semifinals, Aksara wasn’t among the top-ranked teams, so we worked hard to reach the finals. In the end, we placed fourth out of eight teams in the final round,” said Areta during an interview in Bandung on Sunday (28/4).
Throughout the competition, the team received mentorship from senior students and several lecturers from SBM ITB. These sessions provided valuable insights and inspired new ideas. Aksara’s final solution stood out due to its strong focus on technology, setting it apart from other teams’ proposals.
“We also applied several methods we had learned, such as the t-test and ANOVA, in our data analysis. The judges particularly highlighted our technology and data-driven approach,” Areta explained.
For Areta, participating in the competition was an experience worth pursuing. It’s not just about winning or losing.
“I learned a lot from this competition. During the grand finals, our team received valuable feedback directly from the directors of Prudential Syariah. Moreover, we expanded our network by connecting with students from various universities,” she added.
