SBM ITB welcomed students participating in the International Virtual Courses on Monday (18/7/2022). Gita Fajar, the SBM ITB Representative, introduced herself and the session with a warm smile. She also introduced Dr. Yudo Anggoro, Dr. Atik Aprianingsih, and the respected Odo Manuhutu. The sessions are divided into two session: the introduction of the course, and the sharing and Q&A session.

Dr. Yudo Anggoro introduced the first session of the virtual courses with a friendly greeting. He explained that this year is the second year for SBM ITB running this program as a summer course. The school intends to introduce the theme of exporting cultural and creative products. He also mentioned the importance of using soft power as the central theme of this year.

“Soft power could solve the existing current problem. Moreover, this course aims to collaborate closely with the participants and introduce Indonesia’s current business climate,” said Yudo.

With the second introduction of the notable speakers, Dr. Atik Prianingsih delivered one of the main themes: Country’s Strategy to Achieve Soft Power of Cultural and Creative Industry Export. Moreover, today she also prepared the material for the introduction to achieving soft power. She introduces the course and walks the participants through the program, schedule, and activities.

In this course, the participants must do a final project. The project’s main idea is to devise a plan for an Indonesian cultural and creative product to support the development of Indonesia’s soft power on the world stage. Then, she also showed two videos from different countries that showcase how music can be a tool to make a country look favorable to other countries. Hence, it helps to create a positive image of a country.

Furthermore, Dr. Atik also shared her knowledge of soft power. She defined soft power by dissecting the meaning of power. There are two types of power: hard power and soft power. Soft power is a way of cultivating international and domestic resources for a positive relationship between countries. By the end of her session, she also explained further about a real example of soft power in India.
