SBM ITB invited Brenda, Tokopedia’s Senior Affiliate Partnership, as a guest lecture on Introduction to Business on Tuesday (25/10/22). Brenda is an alumnus of SBM ITB 2019. Brenda shared how a person’s product promotion and sales can influence consumer purchasing decisions.

The development of the digital world and social media today provides opportunities for sellers to promote online. Now, there are many social media influencers or people who can influence and guide the decisions of others. Their expertise is often used for marketing a product.

“Influencers can be considered salesmen because they are paid to promote products and influence others to buy,” explained Brenda. “However, we often feel doubtful when viewed from the consumer side. Did the influencer give an honest review? So now we have to have a different approach.”

According to Brenda, word of mouth or testimony by word of mouth, especially from the closest people, has more power to increase consumer confidence in a product or service. One of them is used by Tokopedia by developing affiliate marketing or promotions through individuals who then provide recommendations to those closest to them.

Brenda explained how it works and the benefits provided by the Tokopedia Affiliate Program. Now everyone can be an influencer as long as we can attract the attention of others. Students seemed enthusiastic and active in participating in the class, even though the lecture was hybrid.
