Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles are not only about fulfilling corporate compliance obligations, but also encompass the dimensions of humanity and social sustainability. This message emerged in the fourth session of HCM Talks 2025, held by SBM ITB in collaboration with Hasnur Group in Jakarta on Friday (November 21).
Zulfikar Alimuddin, Chairman of The New You Institute and Head of Hasnur Group’s Human Capital Committee, emphasized that sustainability cannot be separated from the people and social relationships that shape organizational culture.
“ESG is not merely a matter of compliance; it is fundamentally about humanity,” he said. Zulfikar pointed to Hasnur Group as an example, noting that the company “has not only expanded within the region but has grown together with the local community.”
Zulfikar emphasized that organizational culture is the foundation of sustainability because it determines the work atmosphere and the quality of decision-making. He added that properly managed CSR practices have a direct impact on employee engagement.
“CSR is not symbolic. The community and employees feel its impact,” he said.

SBM ITB Dean Prof. Dr. Aurik Gustomo also joined the discussion, stating that business education must foster an innovative, impact-oriented mindset.
“Sustainability means meeting the needs of the current generation without compromising future generations,” he said.
Aurik explained that SBM ITB continues to strengthen its internationally recognized educational ecosystem, including through AACSB accreditation, global collaboration, and the development of an MBA program with nine competency streams. By 2025, SBM ITB had graduated more than 16,000 alumni and produced hundreds of reputable publications. The fourth session of HCM Talks 2025 was part of a series of events titled “Sustainability and Knowledge,” which included talks, consultation sessions, industry insights, and the launch of Prof. Aurik’s latest book on sustainability, knowledge, inclusive culture, and HR analytics.
