SBM ITB had the opportunity to share views from a scientific perspective at the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Conference at the IABC Indonesia Conference at the Westin Hotel, Jakarta, on December 6 2022. SBM ITB was present as a Knowledge Partner at the community conference, the world’s largest public relations (PR).

The IABC Indonesia 2022 conference carries the theme “Towards 2023: Communicating for Impact”, to provide insight, knowledge, and networking opportunities and discuss communications that impact and provide added value to the company’s business development. This conference navigates the trend and direction of communication strategy in Indonesia based on the turbulent issues in the business world and the urge to transform into Sustainability and Technological Advancement.

At the conference, SBM ITB was represented by Dr Nurlaela Arief, MBA, the Director of Communication and Alumni Relations. On this occasion, Nurlaela said that SBM ITB was honoured to collaborate with IABC, celebrating a world-class business communication conference that addresses current sustainability issues.

“With leading speakers and active learning participants, SBM ITB provides related knowledge and gains the latest knowledge and trends from this conference,” said Nurlaela.

Not only being one of the speakers, the Director of the Center for Public Policy and Management Yudo Anggoro, PhD was also appointed as a moderator in the panel session “The Challenges and Opportunities in Prioritizing Sustainability in Indonesia” with panellists from various companies and experts in their respective fields, such as JNE, Pertamina Hulu Indonesia, Landscape Indonesia, and VMCS Advisory Indonesia. The president of IABC Indonesia, Elvera N. Makki, stated IABC wants to increase the role of PR and communication to become more strategic for companies where the IABC community and members work, including in the public, private, consulting, or non-governmental organizations sectors.

Data from IABC indicates that around 436 million Google search results discuss ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) under the umbrella of Sustainability, so this topic is one of the important discussions at the IABC Indonesia Conference.

“We are happy to have SBM ITB as our academic partner in this event,” said Elvera.

SBM ITB’s participation in the IABC Indonesia Conference shows the school’s commitment to providing useful insights and knowledge in business communication, especially in sustainability.
