Getting to know local culture, SBM ITB international students visit Lebakmuncang Ciwidey Tourism Village

September 9, 2024

SBM ITB organized a cultural trip for international students to Lebakmuncang Tourism Village, Ciwidey, in Bandung Regency (6/9). Situated on an alternative route to popular destinations such as Kawah Putih, Situ Patengan, and Ranca Upas, Lebakmuncang is an ideal location for SBM ITB’s international students to explore the natural beauty and local culture of West Java. This activity is part of a series of events welcoming international students aimed at providing an experience that is both educational and helps foster a connection with the local community.

The international students were greeted with a lively traditional art performance and a welcoming speech from the Head of Lebakmuncang Tourism Village. Afterward, the participants enjoyed a traditional meal of nasi liwet and lalawuhan, a variety of local foods that enhanced the warm and familiar atmosphere.

The students were divided into five groups and participated in various educational activities throughout the village. One of the highlights was agricultural education, where participants learned to plant and pick strawberries directly from the garden. They also engaged in traditional fishing, offering them a hands-on experience of the village’s way of life.

In addition, the students were given a tour of the village and visited local sites where they learned how to prepare traditional foods. Cultural activities such as playing traditional games, learning to play the gamelan musical instrument, and discovering the art of Bangkong Reang provided the students with a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.

Ayana Morita, a student from Sophia University, Japan, described the experience as highly memorable and enriching, especially in gaining a deeper appreciation of Indonesian culture, particularly West Java.

“This is also the first time I’ve tried traditional Indonesian games, and it was a lot of fun,” she said.

The event concluded with a group photo session and a heartfelt farewell with the villagers. It is hoped that through this trip, the international students will not only leave with fond memories but also have a deeper understanding of local Indonesian culture, making their learning experience at SBM ITB even more meaningful.
